The 1999 ODI World

The 1999 ODI World Cup holds special memories for Bangladesh. It started with Aminul Islam Bulbul’s men taking down a red-hot Pakistan at the County Ground in Northampton. With the likes of Saeed Anwar, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Wasim Akram in their ranks, beating Pakistan wasn’t a walk in the park back then, but the Tigers did the unthinkable and neutralized their opponents.

On the back of their impressive showing, Bangladesh got Test status in June 2000. Later that year, they made history after playing their maiden Test match against India, captained by Sourav Ganguly. Naimur Rahman Durjoy had the honour of captaining Bangladesh in front of a packed house at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.
